cryptid noun
(cryptozoology) Any creature that may or may not exist. Sightings of various cryptids have been reported, but their reality has not been proved.
What does it mean to be displaced? Displacement takes on many forms. Most imagine it to be merely geographical, but for those living at the intersection of complex identities, displacement is not only physical but also emotional, spiritual and often invisible. We tend to overlook or brush away this displacement in our society, even if it’s right in front of us. Betwixt and Between is the start of a series of works that involve feeling in-between, represented through the paranormal–specifically cryptids. With digital illustration, custom software, sound remixing and sculpture, I explore this in-betweenness, and what it means to be displaced in a society that expects you to take on an assigned form. With My Friend Mothman, I reveal what it feels like to be in between two worlds. I capture the dissonance of existing in spaces where one is neither fully seen, whilst paradoxically feeling exposed and perceived as monstrous or strange–but simply it is a body refusing assimilation. This in-betweenness reflects the struggle of reconciling fragmented identities and finding belonging amidst erasure. My work offers the viewer a glimpse into the layered experiences of those who are displaced within our society and serves as a bridge to understanding the nuanced experiences of those who navigate multiple realities. I emphasize how the paranormal illuminates the unseen and gives voice to the silenced. My Friend Mothman invites viewers to reflect on their own perceptions of identity and the spaces they inhabit.
Mothman is a friend and has invited you to his safe space. Through installation and finding secrets, you can learn more about this ominous fellow and how he, and others who feel like they don’t have a place, can work to make their own. Take the time to sit with him and interact to learn more about him.

custom software and interactive experience
"Exploring the poetics of love across digital landscapes, ilove reimagines the intimacy and obsession of love letters through the aesthetics of analogue handycam horror reminiscent of cinéma vérité films. The environmental and character illustrations frame acts of poetic consumption as metaphor reflecting how passion, desire, and vulnerability overtake our senses."
